Something That Will Feed Your Peace: The Art of Being Answered

Hello my beautiful friends! I hope that you have been enjoying your week and that you and your loved ones are well. I wanted to write this post to let you know that I discovered a really cool creative practice that has been uplifting me and feeding my peace these days, and I wanted to share it with you!

Okay, so it's this therapeutic visual journaling practice called The Art of Being Answered.

The art of being answered is basically what it says– it's documenting in an artistic way how God answers my prayers, how He responds to me each day. Sometimes He answers through a kind word from a friend. Other times, He responds by giving me enough money to buy that book I know will lift my spirit.

God is always answering us, but we don't always notice.

Doing this practice helps remind me that He in fact has been here for me all along! (As I'm wiping tears from thinking that He's left me all alone lol).

I just started doing this practice, but I have a good feeling that it's something that when I continue on a weekly or monthly basis, it'll be a sure way to feel refreshed and re-centered.

Here's how it works :).

I got this idea from Cageless Birds visual journaling. They do a really nice step-by-step walkthrough of visual journaling and the art of being answered. Watch the basics of visual journaling in this video and how to do the art of being answered in this video.

But basically, you first draw a bunch of shapes across the page that touch in some way like puzzle pieces (I used triangles, but you could use circles or really any shape). Then, you choose three colors that you then paint into your shapes. At the end, (this is my favorite part) you write a word (or a few words) next to each shape to describe how God has answered you– in a big or small way.

I don't know about you, but I'm the kind of person who in my relationship with God, I often feel like I need to try harder, like I have to do more in order for God to love me. I can be hard on myself and perfectionist at times! But the truth is that this is not what God is asking of us. Sometimes, all God wants is for us to simply let go and let Him love us.

Being able to to do this practice has really helped me to visually see how God has been loving me throughout these days. It's amazing once you see all of God's answers on the page! I know that being able to look back at all the pages will be the coolest part– to feel encouraged that He is here. He has been all along.

We cannot choose what happens to us.
But we can choose how we respond.

I hope this post gives you some inspiration of how to respond to life's obstacles. I am sending you so much love! Know that I am praying for each and every one of you <3.
